HOHENFELS, Germany - As soldiers of the 115th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division set up their area of operation in preparation for Combined Resolve XV at the Hohenfels Training Area, the command team continues to ensure that the training environment is ready for multinational training setting that the exercise provides.
Combined Resolve XV is a Headquarters Department of the Army directed Multinational exercise designed to build 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division’s readiness and enhance interoperability with allied forces to fight and win against any adversary.
“Today we were pushed out as the advanced party to set up operations to be able to receive the rest of the battalion, expecting them to come as we set up the sustainment operations,” said Sgt. 1st Class Samuel Parker, acting 1st Sgt. with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 115th Brigade Support Battalion (BSB). “The biggest thing in commencing with this training is staying safe and keeping the Soldiers motivated in pushing forward and getting the job done.”
During the exercise, NATO allies and partner countries will test the readiness of the U.S. Army Soldiers. The exercise is used to assess and validate the readiness of the U.S. Army’s 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, as well as reinforce the interoperability with the United States’ multinational partners.
“Today we’re getting set up for Combined Resolve. We’re the first party out here to establish the area, pull security and prepare for the rest of the BSA to get out here tomorrow and set up,” said 1Lt. Clayton Hodge, physician assistant with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 115th Brigade Support Battalion (BSB), 1st Cavalry Division. “This training event is important for us to get validated and to make sure we are ready to defend the nation.”
When trying to remain invisible to the opposing forces, Hodge expresses the benefit of setting up in small elements stating the benefit of it is that you don’t have a mass element moving that’s easy to track and find. If you have a whole brigade element moving at one time it would be easy to see them versus if you have one convoy of ten vehicles you may not pay attention to it.
“We set up and establish an area of operation making it easier for the brigade to come and get set up a lot quicker,” said Hodge. “So if you have the security element already set up, which is one of the most important pieces, then everybody else can come in and work without having to worry about that added security.”
Combined Resolve XV is a Headquarters Department of the Army directed Multinational exercise designed to build 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Calvary Division’s readiness and enhance interoperability with allied forces and partner nations to fight and win against any adversary. This year’s exercise will take place primarily at 7th Army Training Command’s Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels training areas in Bavaria, Germany. U.S. military forces stationed in, or deployed to, Europe routinely conduct these types of exercises with allied and partner nations to enhance interoperability and readiness.
