    416th Theater Engineer Command

The 416th Theater Engineer Command (TEC) is awarded the Army Exceptional Organization Safety Award (AEOSA) for outstanding contribution to Army Reserve Safety during Fiscal Year (FY) 2020.

The 416th TEC won the safety award at the United States Army Reserve Command (USARC) level and were advanced to compete at United States Army Forces Command (FORSCOM).

FORSCOM G1 accepted and boarded Unit and Individual Safety Award Nominations with a panel consisting of Safety Directors and Programs Managers to select winners of the AEOSA from 0-5 through 0-9 level commands.

416th TEC was selected for the AEOSA at the 0-8 level command and was nominated and received the FY 2019 Department of the Army (DA) Secretary of the Army and Chief of staff, Army, Army Awards of Excellence in Safety in the following category: Army Exceptional Organization Safety Award - Army Divisions/all other 2-Star Commands.

In past years the 416th TEC has also been nominated and received the United States Army Reserve (USAR) Commander’s Excellence in Safety Award in FY 2019, FY 2017, FY 2016, FY 2015, FY 2014, FY 2013, FY 2012, FY 2005, and FY 2004.

The award is based on the 416th FY 2020 record of safely training Soldiers and executing missions through embedded risk management at all operational levels. This was accomplished in conjunction with the Army Reserve transformation, which increased the 416th TEC’s end strength to approximately 10,975 Soldiers within the command.

The selection criteria for the Army Reserve Commander’s Excellence in Safety Award is based on board points, assigned by a board, on important factors such as:

The total miles driven, numbers of units participated in exercises.

The percentage of Primary and Alternate Additional Duty Safety Officers, which who have completed the ADSO course: 86 percent.

416th TEC boost a high percentage of Commander and First Sergeants who have completed the Commander’s Safety Course, and E-7 who have completed the Commander’s Safety Course.

The command appointed 100 percent Primary and Alternate radiation safety officers at Brigade and Battalion units throughout the command. The Command Radiation Officer (RSO) has completed numerous training including Basic Radiological Safety, Advanced Radiological Safety, Radiological Packaging, and Technical Transportation.

The command improved upon the existing motorcycle training program by continuing to develop methods of identifying riders, providing assistance to motorcycle operators on training requirements, and placing command emphasis on motorcycle safety. Additionally, the 420th Engineer Brigade also appointed motorcycle mentorship program (MMP) coordinators in order to strengthen the overall program. As a result, this has increased training and awareness of both on and off duty motorcycle operation throughout the command.

The Command Safety Team provided relevant safety briefings to senior leaders in the 416th TEC Safety Advisory Council Meetings and the annual Deployment Readiness Huddle. These briefings focused on safety issues for Army Reserve Soldiers, to include: accident prevention for on-duty/off-duty/not duty, privately owned vehicle accident prevention, motorcycle safety, home safety, fire safety, and recreation safety. The safety councils also focused on lessons learned, safety training requirements, and guidance for safety metric improvement.
