Spc. Madison Thompson is a technical engineer (12T) assigned to the 409th Engineer Vertical Construction Company (EVCC) in Windsor, Colorado. Her duties include land surveying, performing laboratory and field tests on construction materials, soil analysis, and developing construction sites.
She used a Power Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR) protective suit during a recent urban search and rescue exercise. This personal protective equipment (PPE) includes two key components, a mask and a filtered air system to help keep Soldiers cool and prevent overheating during a mission.
Making sure there are no tears in the suit is critical. Medics are on standby during a mission. The unit team leader doubles as a safety officer and can request immediate help by radio if needed, according to Thompson.
She’s looking forward to doing more hands-on training in the future.
Women’s History Month is a time to remember and honor the contributions of our female Soldiers who have performed vital roles during our nation’s conflicts. Today women serve in every career field in the U.S. Army. Thank a woman veteran today.
