F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. --
The 90th Security Forces Squadron held a retirement ceremony for Military Working Dog (MWD) A-452 Foster in the base theatre on F.E. Warren Air Force Base, March 10, 2021.
MWD Foster began his career in Lackland, Texas at the Department of Defense dog training school in 2018. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the 90th Security Forces Squadron canine unit, working as a patrol and explosive detector alongside his handler, Staff Sgt. Eron Holmes, 90 SFS, MWD section.
“Trust and mutual respect are key in a relationship between a handler and his dog, “ said Major Keil Luber, 90 SFS Commander. “That is something that MWD Foster and Sergeant Holmes display.”
Holmes and MWD Foster worked 12-hour shifts and spent their work days and off days together.
“We would be there for each other through thick and thin, every day we earned the trust and respect of one another,” said Holmes.
Holmes and MWD Foster have gone on three different special requests with the Secret Service to provide support to the president, vice president, and first lady. MWD Foster even has pictures with Vice President Mike Pence.
“We would go on many different TDYs [temporary duty assignments], travelling together, and seeing parts of the world neither of us had ever been to,“ said Holmes.
Holmes and MWD Foster share a special bond that few can understand. Holmes hopes to adopt MWD Foster after his time at the Warrior Dog Foundation in Texas.
“I knew the day I met him, no matter what was thrown our way, we would be a great team,” said Holmes. “It was love at first sight.”
Military working dogs are always in high demand at home and abroad. MWD Foster’s retirement is a milestone in which few military working dogs will ever experience.
“I’m very happy to say that MWD Foster is a success story, “ said Luber.
MWD Foster has dedicated his life to protecting the mission of F.E. Warren. Every day he risked his life to save others and was a valuable asset to the United States Air Force earning him the Air Force Commendation Medal.
