ALI AL SALEM AIR BASE, Kuwait – Women make up only 21.1% of the active duty personnel in the U.S. Air Force, according to the USAF’s Personnel Center, making the current rotation of the 386th Logistics Readiness Squadron petroleum, oil and lubricant shop at Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait, a rare occurrence with seven of the 31 personnel being female.
“That is very rare for the career field as it is male dominated,” said Senior Master Sgt. Victoria Kenny, 386th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron fuels superintendent. “Typically, a shop this size may have two women at the most.”
For Women’s History Month, these women came together to celebrate the contributions of women to national defense by dressing as “Rosie the Riveter.”
“Rosie” represents the countless contribution of women across America in support of national defense both during World War II through now.
“As women of 386th ELRS Fuels Management Flight we are proud of representing history this month. Working along six other females demonstrates our achievement for equality and success in our careers,” said Technical Sgt. Luz Soto, 386th ELRS fuels facilities noncommissioned officer in charge. “We bring that extra support and morale to our fellow Airmen.”
Each year, Women’s History Month offers the opportunity to reflect back on the trailblazing women who have led the way for change. It is also a reminder that history is being made each and every day by the Airmen both at home and abroad.
