FORT HOOD, Texas — On Sept. 16, Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery Regiment cased their colors at Cameron Field, representing the ending of the unit's presence at Fort Hood and the beginning of the unit's transition to Camp Carroll in Korea.
A little over two years ago, 2-1 ADA had an uncasing ceremony at Stalker Field as the battalion moved into Fort Hood, said Col. Jimmy Jenkins, the commander of 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade.
In the beginning months of 2007, 2-1 ADA was moved from Korea to Fort Hood, and in the ending months of 2008, the battalion received orders to re-station back in Korea. The Stalker Battalion has been training and preparing, and they are in the process of moving over 400 Soldiers and over 60 Families to Camp Carroll.
"Movement is nothing new to the Stalker Battalion," said Lt. Col. Chad Skaggs, the commander of 2-1 ADA.
A great deal of training has been accomplished by 2-1 ADA, Jenkins said. And they are always making Soldier and family welfare a top priority, he added.
The color casing ceremony symbolizes history, accomplishment, change and Soldiers, Skaggs said.
The ceremony symbolizes history because the Fort Hood chapter for 2-1 ADA is closing and a new one is opening half a world away. The triumphs of the Stalker Battalion have been noted, but now it is time for them to move onward and onto a new mission.
It symbolizes accomplishment because the battalion has set high standards and always met their marks due to their determination and work ethic, as was demonstrated when one of the batteries achieved Gunnery Table 12 Certification, Skaggs said.
The ceremony symbolizes change as the families and Soldiers pack up their bags and equipment that start over somewhere new.
And last, but not least, the ceremony symbolizes the Soldiers. The sweat and determination of the Soldiers on a day to day basis is what makes the battalion's world go round, and without their contribution along with the support of the 69th ADA Bde., the move across the ocean would not be possible, Skaggs said.
The 2-1 ADA bids farewell to the familiarity or Fort Hood, Skaggs said, and they drive on to create a new home for themselves in Korea.
