The 509th Civil Engineer Squadron reopened Endeavour Hall, Feb. 5, after more than a year of renovations.
Endeavour Hall is the second building to undergo renovations. Similar updates to Atlantis Hall were completed in March 2019.
U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Wade Meyer, 509th CES unaccompanied housing superintendent, highlighted the renovation’s key areas:
- All new furniture for common areas and bedroom
- Renovated bathrooms with walk-in showers
- Moisture-controlled and blast-proof windows
- New fire alarm, security and mass notification systems
“Quality, comfortable and safe residential facilities for Airmen are a high priority for Whiteman leadership and we are working hard to ensure all dorm facilities are renovated in the next few years,” Meyer said. “Airmen are expected to take pride in the new facilities and take care of the new finishes and systems, prevent damages, keep facilities clean and neat for future dorm residents.”
Airman 1st Class Whitney Erhart, 131st Bomb Wing public affairs specialist and a new resident to Endeavour Hall, said she enjoyed living in the newly renovated dorm.
“It is very clean and well put together,” Erhart said. “My room is set up well. There are nice gathering areas and there’s a ping-pong table for Airmen.”
Humidity control is a priority to dorm management and each room in Endeavour Hall is equipped with new dehumidifiers.
“The dehumidifiers are vital in the removal of humidity, which creates a more comfortable environment for each resident,” Meyer said. “As we all know, the summers in Missouri are very humid. The laundry room’s exhaust system is tied directly to an attic exhaust fan capable of removing the large amounts of heat and humidity that a room full of washers and dryers can create. This new system also serves an important role in controlling the overall humidity of the building.”
According to dorm management, the renovations on Endeavour and Atlantis Hall will be a baseline for future renovations across the dormitory campus. Discovery Hall is the next building scheduled for renovations beginning in 2022.
The Airmen Dorm Leader team ensures the dorms and residents are cared for and supported year-round.
A new feature within the USAF Connect app allows Airmen to contact their ADL team, review maintenance procedures and report maintenance requests.
“The main reason I became an Airmen Dorm Leader was to help build the foundations for the development of our new Airmen,” said U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Nicholas Monteith, 509th CES Endeavor Hall ADL. “As an ADL, the priority is to take care of our Airmen and the renovations of Endeavour hall reflect this. By improving their living conditions our Airmen can rest assured their well-being is of the highest importance to Team Whiteman.”
