CAMP ZAMA, JAPAN – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers—Japan District is proud to announce that three JED team members have been selected to take part in the USACE Leadership Development Level 3 Program as part of the class of 2022.

The select three are: Bryan Ciccocioppo, Resident Engineer, Torii Office, Okinawa Area Office; Brian Grogan, Programmatic Technical Lead/Civil Engineer, Civil Engineering Section, Zama Engineering Design Branch; and Tristin Suetsugu, Contracting Officer/Chief, Navy, Marine, DODEA, DLA Branch, Contracting Division.

This elite leadership development program is focused on developing USACE civilians into leaders who encourages innovation, teamwork, and partnerships that maximize the Corps’ focus on efficiency and effectiveness.

Native Hawaiian Tristin Suetsugu, one of Japan District’s selectees hopes that his selection makes a meaningful impact in the division. “I am very appreciative and thankful for the opportunity,” Tristin said.

The 18 month training program encompass both remote and face-to-face learning experiences such as strategic leadership training, a focus on organizational transformation, and a mentorship project. Traditionally, selectees have also taken part in a trip to Washington D.C. to visit USACE headquarters and the Pentagon to see their leaders in action.

John Peukert, RPA, Deputy District Engineer for Programs and Project Management Division US Army, Japan Engineer District, describes the program as highly selective. “Candidates must demonstrate performance at the highest level as a base line qualification,” He explained. “They produce an application package that is lengthy and thorough and this is evaluated by a panel of senior leadership from all the districts and then division HQ.”

“It’s a big deal to get selected for this elite program,” Peukert beamed. “And Japan Engineer district couldn’t be more proud of our representation in the class of 2022.”

Japan Engineer District is headquartered at Camp Zama and operates field offices throughout Japan. The District executes the Japan Host Nation Funded Construction and U.S. MILCON programs as the Department of Defense design and construction agent. The District supports U.S. Forces and other agencies with quality, professional and comprehensive planning, engineering, construction, environmental and other value-added services.
