Members of the 7th Force Support Squadron held a ceremony marking the reopening of the Longhorn Dining Facility on April 1, 2021, at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, after being refurbished for nine months.

During the closure, the DFAC had several renovations completed. The kitchen area had a completed fire suppression system installed, the salad area has been completely replaced, there are new floors and paint in the facility, and old wall fixtures from the main entrance have been removed.

“Our primary mission is to fuel the lethality of the human weapon system and it provides dorm residents a well-rounded, nutritional meal option,” said Tech. Sgt. Heather Hall, 7th FSS DFAC manager. “The renovations were vital to our operational safety and in compliance with fire codes.”

The U.S. Air Force operates DFACs to meet the mission feeding requirements of the installation. These dining operations provide subsistence entitlements to enlisted members who reside in the dormitories. They also provide on-the-job training for food service personnel to meet our war-fighting missions and daily installation operations.

“We are looking forward to opening and getting back to serving Team Dyess and providing a great dining experience,” Hall said.

There are specific policies in place to ensure Dyess personnel can safely receive food from the facility. Hand sanitizing stations are placed throughout the customer areas, the six foot social distancing will be enforced with no more than four people per table, and to-go meal options and bottled beverages are available.

There will also be no buffet style feeding, all items will be individually packaged for customer convenience and to follow COVID-19 protocols.

“This was a total team effort from everyone who was involved,” said Maj. Tamekia Payne, 7th FSS commander. “We are happy to present to you the product of innovation and ingenuity as you enter the dining facility.”

The hours of operations for the dining facility is below:
