GREAT LAKES, Ill. (April 5, 2021) – Naval Station Great Lakes announced their Sailors of the Quarter for the first quarter for 2021.
Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class Kendra Gilliam, from Raleigh, North Carolina, was named Junior Sailor of the Quarter for Great Lakes. Gilliam is a part of Great Lakes’ security department working in the armory. She has been in the Navy for seven years and aboard Great Lakes for over a year.
“I am grateful to have been recognized as JSOQ and I am hoping to continue to be a leader to my peers and elevate to new levels personally and professionally!” said Gilliam.
With the armory, Gilliam works as a line coach at gun range sessions qualifying security personnel in firearm handling. She is also a career counselor for the department performing career development boards, reenlistments, and managing appropriate administrative work to maintain her Sailors careers. Gilliam is also the command indoctrination coordinator, setting up training for new command accessions.
“I am converting to Navy Counselor,” said Gilliam. “The best part of my job is going home and knowing I made a difference in someone’s career and that person may just remember me years down the line.”
