SAN DIEGO – The Naval Base San Diego (NBSD) Personnel Support Detachment (PSD) stood up its identification (ID) issuing office Apr. 2, 2021, after relocating from the visitor control center (VCC) to Anchor’s Catering & Conference Center.

“Thank you to the many people who had a hand in moving the team over to the new facility,” said Lt. Cmdr. Ashley Morrison, PSD San Diego officer in charge.

Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) and the NBSD public works department coordinated the renovation and retrofitting to tailor the space to the needs of the new ID Office.

“The renovation that was completed through navy facilities and public works resulted in an absolutely pristine space for ID services” said David Vasquez, the Navy Identification Card Administration (ICA) quality control manager. “The new layout is much improved with more room in each cubicle and every one of them is wheelchair accessible,” he said.

The project was years in the making and the new office began servicing its first customers with a larger waiting lobby and higher levels of wheelchair accessibility.

“Our Navy ICA team did an amazing job with packing, unpacking, setting up the plethora of equipment and working with DMDC (Defense Manpower Data Center), NMCI (Navy/Marine Corps Intranet) and installation N6 to get everything working,” said Vasquez. “My team is absolutely elated to have such a wonderful space to provide ID services for Naval Base San Diego,” he said.

The new location will also help redirect some of the traffic away from the VCC for increased accessibility and higher parking availability. Like many ID lab offices, the NBSD office is located outside the fence line, which allows family members easy access to the facility.

“Our new location at Bldg 3210 is also just outside a gate so customers will have access without having to come on to the base,” said Vasquez. The office is located off Main St. near the Interstate 5 South on ramp at 2375 Yama St., San Diego, CA 92136.

Customers can schedule appointments via MilConnect. For more information on ID Office services at this location call 619-556-9248 or 619-556-9249.

Services for base access and the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) will remain at the VCC located at 3101 S. Harbor Dr., San Diego, CA. The VCC can be reached at 619-556-1653.
