KAPOLEI, HAWAII. - Soldiers from Alpha Company, 209th Aviation Support Battalion (ASB), 25th Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB), 25th Infantry Division, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, to work on a home being built in Kapolei, Hawaii.
During the day soldiers painted exterior walls, dug trenches and prepared a deck for painting.
The volunteer effort was coordinated by Sgt. Vance Brown, a Petroleum Supply Specialist with Alpha Company, 209th (ASB).
“I reached out to Jo Bautista from Habitat for Humanity and worked with my chain of command to get everything approved”, said Brown.
“We are looking for opportunities to give back to the community and Habitat for Humanity provides that opportunity”, he said.
Ms. Jo Bautista the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Leeward affiliate said “Volunteers are the lifeline of our organization; without volunteers we could not build these homes.”
“They progressed further than I expected them to”, she said. “They are digging the trench by hand which was started by a mini-excavator and they are moving so quick, I’m impressed.”
Bautista said “I feel so blessed to have all of you guys here."
Brown said, “This is a day not to think of ourselves, but to think of someone else.”
