Families and friends come together to recognize military children during the Month of the Military Child appreciation ceremony April 14, on Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma.
The ceremony allowed the children to come forward and talk about some of the challenges they face day-to-day, and how they are not alone.
“This event impacts MCAS Yuma by allowing our community to recognize military children for their service and sacrifice,” said Candice Brown, the school liaison officer for MCAS Yuma. “This makes the broader community aware of the challenges that military children and families face.”
Some sacrifices military children make are family members missing significant events while on deployments, and relocation, which often means losing friends.
“I have a 4 year old who has moved to 5 different places,” says Col Chuck Dudik, commanding officer of MCAS Yuma. “It’s not easy other kids don’t have to do what you do.”
Every April the U.S. Military celebrates children with military parents and applaud them for the adversity they go through.
Col Dudik had this to say to the children “When I look at you and the courage you have and the love and support you give your parents to help them go to work and protect our country, It’s a really meaningful thing to me and I just want to say thank you for all you do.”
