The Fort Stewart Cemetery and Historic Communities Council hosted the
installation's Spring Cemetery Tour April 15.
Thirty participants visited five of the installations cemeteries with stops
at Gill, Wise, Clyde, Taylors Creek, and Pleasant Grove. Before Congress
purchased the land in the 1940's more than 60 communities flourished on what is now Fort Stewart. Each of those communities is now only physically represented by a cemetery but the history is preserved through the cemetery and historic communities council. Fort Stewart hosts two cemetery tours a year on behalf of the Cemetery and Historical Communities Council in April and November.
