CAPE MAY, N.J. – Seaman Lauren Kerr from Springfield, New Jersey, earned the title of Honor Graduate after graduating from the U.S. Coast Guard’s condensed 7-week basic training at Training Center Cape May, April 23, 2021.

Kerr was presented a plaque on behalf of the Navy League that is presented to the recruit who has the highest final overall standing. Kerr is authorized to wear the Coast Guard Honor Graduate Ribbon.

Capt. Kathy Felger, the commanding officer of Training Center Cape May, presided over the ceremony and advancement of the 60 graduates of Recruit Company Juliet-200. Training at boot camp is difficult, and approximately 20% of recruits do not graduate with their original company.

“I am honored to represent Juliet-200 as the honor graduate, and I’m also honored to have represented the female recruits in our company as our squadbay leader,” said Kerr. “I'm proud of the adversity we’ve overcome, I'm proud of our transformation from civilians to military personnel, and I'am proud dof what we as a company have accomplished with the guidance and instruction from our company commanders. I look forward to hearing about all of the accomplishments our Juliet-200 graduates achieve out in the fleet.”

Kerr will be stationed at Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral, in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Kerr’s company earned multiple awards during their seven weeks of training, such as the seamanship and range pennants. Juliet-200 also earned the company commander and section commander pennants.

Kerr is the daughter of Alice and Dave Kerr, and graduated from Jonathan Dayton High School in 2011. She continued her education and graduated from Arcadia University in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in biology.

Training Center Cape May is the fifth largest base in the Coast Guard and the sole accession point for the entire enlisted workforce. It is considered the birthplace of the enlisted corps or the Coast Guard’s Hometown.

Training Center Cape May’s mission is to transform the recruits of today into the Coast Guardsmen of tomorrow.
