Admiral Phil Davidson is the 25th Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command, the nation’s oldest and largest combatant command. USINDOPACOM includes 380,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, Guardians, Coast Guardsmen and Department of Defense civilians and is responsible for all U.S. military activities in the Indo-Pacific, covering 36 nations, 14 time zones, and more than 50 percent of the world’s population.
A native of St. Louis, MO, he is a 1982 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, and a 1992 distinguished graduate of the U.S. Naval War College. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.
A surface warfare officer, Admiral Davidson deployed across the globe in frigates, destroyers, cruisers, and aircraft carriers.
He previously commanded USS TAYLOR (FFG 50) and USS GETTYSBURG (CG 64), Carrier Strike Group 8 aboard USS EISENHOWER (CVN69), U.S. Sixth Fleet and Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO, as well as U.S. Fleet Forces Command/U.S. Naval Forces Northern Command.
Ashore, Davidson served in fleet, joint, and interagency assignments at U.S. Pacific Fleet, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, and U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, on the staffs of the Chief of Naval Operations and the Joint Staff, at the U.S. State Department, and as the Navy’s military aide to the Vice President of the United States.
His decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat “V”, a Superior Honor Award from the U.S. Department of State, and other personal, service, unit, and campaign awards.
