Crucial to sustain aircraft and support ground forces is fuel, and for Airman 1st Class Michael Zeno, he does just that.
Zeno, 4th Logistics Readiness Squadron, petroleum, oil and lubricants (POL) from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina, one of eight POL Airmen, supporting AGILE FLAG 21-2 at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, provides, stores, tests and distributes fuel.
AGILE FLAG 21-2 kicked off this week at Tyndall Air Force Base testing the 4th Fighter Wing capabilities to deploy as a lead Air Expeditionary Wing.
Working in a fast-paced environment has prepared Zeno for the exercise.
“Being at Seymour is an interesting base,” Zeno said. “The work load is very high. I like Seymour being my first base, because if you can make it at Seymour, you can make it anywhere.”
Even now POL is working behind the scenes to meet the needs of Airmen before and during the exercise.
“Nothing moves without gas,” said Master Sgt. Daniel Knez, 4th LRS fuels superintendent. “And, we’re on call 24/7.”
“Providing fuel support for the aircraft is essential for this exercise,” he added. “We also distribute ground products for life sustainment and vehicle operations.”
The 4th Fighter Wing is one of several units participating in the experiment, which tests a wing’s ability to deploy into a theater as a lead expeditionary wing.
