Goodfellow leadership celebrated the base’s inaugural class of Honorary Commander Alumni at the Event Center here, April 9, by graduating 12 members to alumni status.

The goal of the Honorary Commander Program is to create lasting partnerships while familiarizing current and future community leaders with the base and its mission.

“In my twenty-four year career I have been many places that care about their military,” said Col. James Finlayson, 17th Training Wing vice commander. “San Angelo really stands above the rest for loving their military.”

As honorary commanders graduate the program, new community leaders are identified to potentially take their place. The search process seeks out active community leaders and connects them with squadrons and units on base.

“When I came to Goodfellow and needed support, there were people there for me,” said Sarah Ross, education coordinator for Fort Concho National Historic Landmark. “I wanted to pass that support on to others and this seemed like the perfect opportunity.”

Ross attended the event after accepting the invitation to be the new honorary commander for the 344th Military Intelligence Battalion here at Goodfellow.
