UDAIRI RANGE, KUWAIT -- U.S. Army Central Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 194th Armor Regiment,1st Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, ensured equipment capabilities and increased readiness by test firing their Bradley Fighting Vehicles and M1 Abrams Tanks, May 2, here.
Readiness and confidence in their equipment are two very important building blocks for any unit moving to forward locations in the U.S. Central Command theater.
“Today we brought our Bradleys out here to get everything tested out and run it through a wear and tear test by firing the equipment and running the tracks through this terrain and temperature,” said Sgt. Michael Vath, the commander’s gunner.
One of the main objectives of this range event was also to ensure the M1 Abrams Tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles were properly sighted.
“We are making sure each of our rounds on the tank shoots to where we are sighting,” said Sgt. Luke Schmokel, a tank gunner with the battalion.
Vath explained that zeroing a weapon is taking where the barrel actually aims and aligning the sight to the barrel, and making sure that the cross-hairs are set to where the rounds are actually going out of the barrel.
He said, “When we make our movements for this deployment, we need to be able to rely on our equipment. If we are not 100% confident in the accuracy and state of our equipment, that's going to take away from our mission and our capabilities.”
