YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan -- Yokota members took part in a two-week long Samurai Readiness Inspection exercise, April 25-May 6.
The base-wide exercise leveraged multi-domain capabilities to out-match those seeking to challenge the U.S. and Coalition interests in the region through a credible, capable, and dynamic defense posture to compete, deter, and win against state and non-state adversaries.
Team Yokota was evaluated on their readiness to perform the Wing’s mission by executing global mobility in support of operations across the Indo-Pacific while under simulated wartime and contingency conditions.
“Participants had to be flexible in responding to unusual challenges presented by a capable simulated adversary,” said Tech. Sgt. George Lopez, Wing Inspection Planner, 374th Inspector General office, “Yokota’s Airmen developed and implemented many creative solutions to execute their mission despite encountering a wide variety of both kinetic and non-kinetic threats.”
Yokota’s wing inspection team worked closely with the base’s intelligence personnel and subject matter experts across the base to develop a realistic training designed to meet the desired learning objectives of all affected units. Airmen faced a plethora of mock scenarios such as missile attacks with leaking chemicals, unauthorized entry on base, an aircraft hijacking and an aircraft fire.
“Exercises provide the most realistic scenarios possible to better prepare us for anything [that] could occur in the future,” said Staff Sgt. Charles Trussler, 374th Security Forces Squadron Base Defense Operations Center controller, “[They] help identify deficiencies to motivate us to… better hone our skills so we can always protect personnel and property, and complete the mission at hand.”
The base was able to test each unit’s skillset and contingency response effectively.
“Threats posed by our adversaries continually evolve, and our current tactics, techniques, and procedures may not always be applicable; leaders rely upon Airmen at all levels to apply innovation and initiative to overcome adversity and enable mission success,” said Lopez.
