Transportation experts assigned to the 841st Transportation Bn. began vessel loading operations on the Ocean Gladiator in support of Exercise African Lion 21 at Jacksonville, Fla., May 10.
African Lion is an exercise aimed at strengthening partnerships and building readiness through joint all-domain, multi-national and multi-functional training that supports our National Defense Strategy.
More than 7,000 troops from nine countries will participate in the exercise – U.S. Africa Command’s largest annual exercise. The exercise demonstrates the winning combat capabilities of the U.S. and African partners and regional allies while enhancing strategic readiness to respond to contingencies around the globe.
Mobilizing a globally engaged Army requires synchronization across multiple domains to effectively move equipment and materiel to PACOM, EUCOM, AFRICOM and CENTCOM. With Soldiers and civilians deployed in 140 countries worldwide, the Army continues to deliver capability to Soldiers faster and more effectively by working with industry partners at strategic locations like the Jacksonville Port.
The 597th Trans Brigade is responsible for customer support and all general cargo operations in the Eastern United States, Puerto Rico and South America. The brigade's 841st Transportation Bn. is the single port manager for all Dept. of Defense cargo moving through seaports on the Eastern Seaboard. The 841st Transportation Bn. is laser-focused on maintaining the highest levels of readiness and continues to provide credible and capable expertise to deploying units.
