More than 70 Soldiers, Family Members and civilian employees participated in the biannual Aerobathon at Towle Court Fitness Center, Sept. 19.
"This is a meet and greet for the classes," said fitness coordinator Shannon Riley. "It allows people to meet the instructors and see their style of instructing as well as socialize with one another. They can also get a chance to see the types of fitness programs we have to offer here," she said.
The Aerobathon ran from 9 a.m. to noon and offered three hours of spin class as well as kickboxing, Zumba, two step-aerobics classes and a cool-down.
One of the participants who spent all three hours at spin class really enjoyed her time at the gym.
"My husband is currently deployed," said Jessica Mintz, wife of Capt. Tabber Mintz, 82nd Airborne Division Special Troops Battalion, "I figure while he is gone, what better way to spend some time than go to the gym. Besides, I really like the instructors, they all have different styles."
Even the instructors enjoyed their time at the Aerobathon.
"I think the Aerobathon is a great idea," said Andrea Knight, Zumba instructor. "I love the salty Latin moves of Zumba, and it is really exciting to see how pumped up the people get as they dance and exercise."
Master Sgt. Ron Singer, veterinary food inspection specialist and spin instructor, 248th Medical Detachment, also likes the motivation he sees when he instructs his spin classes.
"I enjoy looking out at the crowd and seeing their motivation," said Singer. "The Aerobathon allows participants to test their physical fitness and mental toughness and endurance. It is one thing to take a one hour spin class, but to know that you can push yourself at a high tempo for three hours is really fulfilling."
