    3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne)

    MEMORIAL WEEK

FORT BRAGG, N.C. – Families, Service Members, and Friends of 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) watched as red roses were placed on the 60 stones lining the Group Memorial Walk during a ceremony held Tuesday morning. “As we reflect on the stones before us, we do not see just stones. We see friends, teammates, brothers, fathers and sons,” said Col. John Bishop, 3rd SFG (A) Deputy Commander. “We remember voices, stories, and time spent together.”

The Group Memorial Walk ceremony honored those Soldiers who died while deployed overseas. The day continued with a ceremony held at the Memorial Wall, which recognized all Soldiers who have passed away while assigned to the unit.

This year, the names of eight service members were added to the Group Memorial Wall:

    Sgt. 1st Class Chadwick Paul, 3rd Bn., 3rd SFG (A) – August 25, 2018

    Sgt. Jafet Rodriguez, 1st Bn., 3rd SFG (A) – April 18, 2019

Master Sgt. David Renjifo, Group Support Bn., 3rd SFG (A) - August 23, 2019

    Master Sgt. Nathan Goodman, 2nd Bn., 3rd SFG (A) – January 14, 2020

Sgt. 1st Class Troy Caraway, Group Support Bn., 3rd SFG (A) – March 12, 2020

Sgt. Jonathan Hackworth, Group Support Bn., 3rd SFG (A) – April 12, 2020

    Sgt. 1st Class William DePew, 4th Bn., 3rd SFG (A) – June 9, 2020

    Sgt. 1st Class C.J. DePaulo III, 3rd Bn., 3rd SFG (A) – March 6, 2021

“Today, and on this Memorial Day – we remember, we reflect, but we also recommit ourselves to be better, get better and push the envelope,” said Bishop “We will never let them down. They deserve our best. They have given us this day.”

In addition to the two ceremonies, 3rd SFG (A) will also host the Robbie Miller Memorial Run, May 26, at the Yarborough complex. The run commemorates Medal of Honor recipient Staff Sgt. Robert J. Miller who was killed conducting combat operations in Afghanistan. The week will end with Remembrance PT, a monthly event, remembering those service members killed in action during the month of May. The remembrance PT event will be held May 27 at the Group Memorial Walk.

The Group Chaplain’s office helped organize the events and are available in support of Families and Service Members.

Capt. (CH) Christopher Perry reminded the audience, “As we reflect over the next several days on the memories of these men; let us be encouraged… let us be inspired… to live up to the example they have shown us… and let us continue mission in a way that will forever honor these men so that their sacrifice… and their families’ sacrifice is not in vain.”
