MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Lt. Col. Kevin A. Misner relinquished command of the U.S. Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Battalion – East to Lt. Col. Jane R. Oren during a ceremony at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, May 27.

Oren is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and received her commission in December 2004. Oren is an air intelligence officer by trade and comes to the unit after serving as a faculty advisor, course director, and chief instructor at the Expeditionary Warfare School, Quantico, Virginia.
Oren said her command philosophy will focus on “who we are, what we do, and why we do it.”

“We have a diverse staff and recovering service members who are all working towards the same goal—adapting and working to meet the needs of the RSMs,” said Oren. “We all work together. No one works alone. "It’s a true team effort from the RSMs, case managers, RCCs, medical and administrative professionals, WAR-P staff, and uniformed staff.”

Misner, a graduate of Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, received his commission in March 2002. Misner is departing the Wounded Warrior Battalion to assume command of Marine Wing Support Squadron 172 in Okinawa, Japan, next month.

Misner departed the unit explaining how Wounded Warrior’s mission impacted him.

“There are numerous Marines within the battalion that are living with a terminal diagnosis. During my time in command, we lost Marines from a variety of issues stemming from their medical conditions,” Misner explained.

“While that can be expected from time-to-time in a unit with our mission, it still has an impact on everyone—particularly those who are most involved with those recovering members. The courage and steadfastness of each of these Marines, as well as the dignity, professionalism, and care exhibited by the staff during those difficult times, was both an inspiration to me and a credit to the Marine Corps.”

Misner sincerely thanked the staff who skillfully balanced empathy, understanding, and the Marine Corps’ standards.
“Command is a team game and I was fortunate to be dealt a group of All-Stars,” he said.

Wounded Warrior Battalion – East, Wounded Warrior Regiment, ensures the support, recovery, and care of combat and non-combat wounded, ill, and injured (WII) Marines and Sailors attached to Marine units, and their family members in order to maximize their recovery as they return to duty or transition to civilian life.
