Command of Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Corpus Christi changed hands May 27.
Capt. Jessica Bain relieved Capt. Eric Evans as commanding officer of NMRTC-CC during a change of command ceremony held in the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi chapel.
Rear Adm. Darin Via, Commander, Naval Medical Forces Atlantic, served as the ceremony’s presiding officer, welcomed Bain to her new role in command and commended Evans for his accomplishments during his tour.
Evans, who served as NMRTC-CC’s commanding officer since June 2019 was recognized for extraordinary leadership and management expertise for his overseeing of the transition of Naval Health Clinic Corpus Christi to the Defense Health Agency, as well as the establishment of NMRTC Corpus Christi and its associated Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Units in Fort Worth, Kingsville and San Antonio.
Additionally, Via applauded Evan’s leadership in guiding the command through the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Through your guidance and leadership, the Sailors of NMRTC Corpus Christi responded with unbelievable resolve and determination,” Via said. “You expertly balanced the fast flow of information and taskers with a constant focus on staff morale and implemented innovative modifications within your command to ensure the safety and wellbeing of both staff and beneficiaries throughout the pandemic, without losing the focus on readiness.“
During his final speech as commanding officer, Evans took time to thank his family, friends and the Sailors and staff of the command for their support during his tenure.
“It was truly a pleasure coming to work every day working with you,” Evans said. “I was always in awe of your leadership and your different leadership approaches to the numerous challenges we faced.”
Bain, who previously served as executive officer, Navy Medicine readiness and Training Command Pearl Harbor, assumed command of the more than 480 active duty, civilian and contract staff at NMRTC-CC.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to join your team and for the warm Texas welcome my family and I have received,” Bain said. “I am humbled that I have been trusted with the privilege to serve as your commanding officer, and I look forward to an exciting future, growing together as leaders and maximizing our readiness and the readiness of those we serve.”
Evans’ next assignment will be as an instructor at the Naval Leadership and Ethics Center in Newport, Rhode Island.
