GREAT LAKES, Ill. (May 26, 2021) – Naval Station Great Lakes announced their Sailors of the Quarter in an awards ceremony May 14, 2021.
Navy Counselor 1st Class Tray Bynam, from Phenix City, Alabama, was named Sailor of the Quarter for Great Lakes. Bynam is Great Lakes’ installation command career counselor and acting administrative department leading chief petty officer. He has been in the Navy for 13 years and aboard Great Lakes for nearly a year.
“I am grateful for this outstanding recognition, but more so appreciative to my Admin Department Sailors for helping me to achieve this,” said Bynam. “They are the unrelenting core of the command by keeping the Sailors and their families paid, records managed, advanced, and retained; and for that, I am thankful for what they do!”
Bynam leads the administration department in their daily functions, sailorization, structure, and training. Additonally, he leads a Career Development Team made up of departmental leadership and six counselors, managing the careers of 104 Sailors. Bynam stays abreast with the tenant commands as the bases’ career information program subject matter expert and earned NSGL the FY-20 Retention Excellence Award.
“Being a Navy Career Counselor is the career advisor for the Navy as a whole, not just your current duty station,” said Bynam. “I wear my CCC Cookie proudly, knowing that I have assisted in the elevation of careers and impacted lives in a positive way.”
