Team MacDill’s personal property office delivers during PCS peaks

    UNITED STATES

Story by Staff Sgt. Heather Clements

    6th Air Refueling Wing

MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. – One 6th LRS TMO section serves all Team MacDill personnel who are retiring, separating or changing duty stations.

The personal property office is all hands on deck with more military members moving during the summer months.

“May through September is our peak season for [permanent changes of station],” said Tech. Sgt. Andrew Manske, 6th LRS TMO personal property noncommissioned officer in charge. “We serve every branch of service in one of the biggest areas of responsibility in Florida.”

Peak season comes with its fair share of challenges for Team MacDill TMO members, who support Airmen across their wing, as well as two large combatant commands and 33 tenant units.

On average, the personal property section processes over 2,800 outbound shipments in a five-month timeframe.

“We also work with the joint personal property office, one of the largest in the United States, to route paperwork for our customers,” said Staff Sgt. Logan Robinson, 6th LRS TMO personal property supervisor. “MacDill has one of the largest personal property offices in the United States. We serve customers from Orlando all the way down to Fort Meyers.”

To add to that, the worldwide coronavirus pandemic added challenges to all of TMO, a unit that physically interacts with customers and their personal belongings on a daily basis.

“It was a huge adjustment when COVID-19 hit,” recalled Manske. “TMO almost had a mini-peak season when the stop movement lifted and customers needed immediate assistance. You have to rise to the occasion in situations like this and our team did exactly that.”

With the worldwide pandemic still affecting everyday life, TMO moved to an all-online platform to mitigate contact with customers, while limiting in-person counseling to only members retiring, separating or moving for the first time.

“This job is definitely challenging, but I personally enjoy that challenge, it’s rewarding for me,” said Robinson. “TMO is a unique career field, it encompasses logistics and I’m proud to be a logistician.”

Whether it is moving aircraft parts or supplies for Air Mobility Command aircraft or enabling the joint force mission by moving a U.S. Marine and their family to another duty station, 6th LRS TMO has a proven track record of delivering, always.
