FORT BRAGG, NC. An Army Wheeled Mechanic assigned to 4th Psychological Operations Group (Airborne) goes on camera in a series “Pimp My Ride” created by the Group’s Outreach Team. Staff Sgt. Emily Lucas from New Boston, NH; has been a mechanic for over eight years and now focuses her talents in the Special Operation Forces working on non-military vehicles. “Non-standard vehicles are necessary in the SOF community,” said Lucas, “While deployed, PSYOP teams usually fall in on a non-standard or non-military vehicle that are commonly used by the local population in that area of operation.”
Psychological Operations Soldiers attend a driving course specifically designed for the Special Operations Forces (SOF) before deploying to their area of operation. PSYOP Soldiers are able to operate different types of vehicles in both normal and austere environments. Soldiers assigned to 4th PSYOP Group (Airborne) have the opportunity to learn to drive and maintain a non-standard vehicle during training exercises. “It’s important for us to be able to maintain and operate these vehicles because as a special operations asset in a foreign country, we may be required to conduct missions in difficult terrain,” said Staff Sgt. Bates assigned to 1st PSYOP Battalion (Airborne).
Staff Sgt. Emily Lucas enlisted as a Military Occupation Specialty 91B; Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic. She is responsible in supervising and performing maintenance, repairing, and recovery operations on wheeled vehicles and select armored vehicles that serve the Army in a variety of mission critical roles. “I enjoy the work I signed up for, but I really love the people I work with and what we do in supporting the PSYOP Regiment,” said Staff Sgt. Lucas.
