MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan -- The 35th Medical Group (MDG) demonstrated their full spectrum trauma care procedures to U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Kevin Schneider, 5th Air Force commander, during his visit to Misawa Air Base, May 20, 2021.

The full spectrum trauma care mission is to recognize and treat victims as quickly and efficiently as possible; this was demonstrated on an Airman with improvised explosive device injuries.

The demonstration focused on the victim’s treatment from the point of injury on the field, to their care at the hospital. This highlighted the real-world resources and collaboration needed to properly care for patients’ injuries.

“Being so isolated, it’s important for us to be able to administer trauma care capabilities,” said Master Sgt. Gerald Casilla, TRICARE Operations and Patient Administration flight chief. “Stabilizing a patient before transferring them to a larger medical facility gives them a better chance of recovery.”

Full spectrum trauma care training allows 35th MDG Airmen to respond quickly, managing patients both on base and in deployed environments.
