    U.S. Marine Corps Logistics Command

ALBANY, GA – Lt. Col. Fred Glencamp, commanding officer, 2d Marine Force Storage Battalion (2d MFSB), relinquished command to Lt. Col. Kurtis Sargent during a change-of-command ceremony held at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany (MCLB-Albany), Georgia, June 11, 2021.

A change of command ceremony is a military tradition representing a formal transfer of authority and responsibility of a unit from the outgoing commanding officer to the incoming officer. The passing of the unit’s colors signifies the official change of duties transferring into the hands of the next commanding officer.

Attending the ceremony were Marines, Civilian-Marines, and family members who witnessed the ceremony held within Marine Corps Logistics Command’s newest storage facility.

Col. Kipp A. Wahlgren, commanding officer, Marine Force Storage Command (MFSC), welcomed his newest battalion commander and his family to Albany.

“Welcome to the family - Lieutenant Colonel Sargent. I am excited about your new leadership opportunity with the 2d Marine Force Storage Battalion and the level of responsibility this new role represents for you and the command,” said Wahlgren.

Sargent’s last duty assignment was with the 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, where he served from 2018-2021 as the Division Meteriel Readiness Officer.

Sargent spoke about his selection for command, “When I was told I had been selected for command - the level of surprise and weight fallen onto my shoulders – I had never felt before.” “. I'm ready to take on the progress made and support the heavy lifting,” continued Sargent.

Wahlgren also reflected on Glencamp’s leadership as outgoing commanding officer of 2d MFSB.

“It has been a real honor working with you,” Wahlgren said.
“One of your many lasting legacies will be the groundwork you and your team have covered. As the Marine Corps continues its focus on future modernization efforts like smart warehousing will become the standard,” added Wahlgren.

During his speech, Glencamp spoke about his Marine Corps career, his logistics journey while commanding the 2d MFSB, and the workforce credited with influencing his time there.

Glencamp said, “Sir [Col. Wahlgren], thank you for always being there, for your leadership, and your visibility.”

Glencamp continued and spoke about the 2d MFSB civilian workforce, “when I first arrived at the command, I said to a couple of you that I believed you all were some of the most committed crew of men and women I’ve ever worked with.”

During the ceremony, Glencamp received the Meritorious Service Medal, Gold Star in lieu of fourth award. According to the citation, “from June 2019 to June 2021, the 2d MFSB received, stored, and issued over 3.7 million items with near-perfect auditability. His technical expertise resulted in direct and measurable impacts towards modernization efforts.”

Nearing his closing remarks, Glencamp turned his back to the audience, faced those Marines still in parade formation, and said, “Marines! Thank you so much for all the hard work you have all done.

Glencamp’s next assignment will be as a student at Marine Corps War College, Quantico, Virginia.
