Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Keyport employee Dr. Mark E. Paulus, principal for the Research, Test and Evaluation Department has been awarded the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Research, Development, and Acquisition) 2021 Dr. Delores M. Etter Top Scientists and Engineers of the Year Award in the Individual Engineer category.
Paulus, a Mead, Washington native has been a civil service employee for 17 years. He earned a Bachelor and Master of Science in mechanical engineering in 2004 and his doctorate in mechanical engineering in 2011.
Paulus earned the award based on his efforts to ensure low-cost, portable, undersea tracking capabilities are delivered to the fleet.
The selection process is highly competitive. Each submission impressively demonstrated high levels of professionalism and scientific or engineering achievement.
“It’s a very humbling experience knowing I was picked for this honor among my peers,” Paulus said. “It is a recognition not only of what I have done but the great people around me who make it possible.”
In his current position, Paulus is responsible for oversight of the Research, Test and Evaluation Department research portfolio as well as development of novel sensing technology.
The 2021 award winners will be recognized at a ceremony at Naval Surface Warfare Center Division Carderock in Maryland on June 25.
