Army Reserve Sgt. Jameson Michael Crabtree, a mass communications specialist with the 366th MPAD, out of Denver, Colorado, is attached to his higher command, the 364th Theater Public Affairs Support Element based out of Fort Snelling, Minnesota, for this exercise.
Before the exercise started, Crabtree took the opportunity to get a few shots in at Pine View Campground at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. He is an avid basketball player who normally plays streetball every weekend, until 15 months ago.
A new family member and the pandemic sidelined playing sports until now. In 2020, the city of Denver removed the rims of the basketball goals from the city parks, to keep people from gathering in crowds and spreading COVID-19. “Usually when I go on annual training, I always bring several pairs of shoes. I left my Lebron’s at home because I was unsure if I would get the opportunity to play this time.” says Crabtree.
“Army bases are a great place to play pickup games. You can usually find one every night during the week and people who will battle it out on the court,” said Crabtree. Fort McCoy and other bases have lifted the restrictions regarding social gatherings that were previously in place for more than a year.
A sense of normalcy is returning to the Army Reserves on and off the court. “I played a few games while wearing a mask earlier this year. It was 21 and I won both games, but it’s nice to see things returning to the way that they were.” said Crabtree.
