KUNSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea-- Kunsan Air Base celebrated its unique community with a “Wolfpack Heritage through Diversity Day” event April, 12, 2021.
The event included an academic course to inform Kunsan members about the importance of diversity and inclusion in the Armed Forces.
Deborah Prescott, Airman and Family Readiness, flight chief, spoke about the importance of promoting diversity and inclusion.
“The purpose of promoting diversity and inclusion is to think together, not alike,” Prescott said. “We do this by blending our individual characteristics, backgrounds and life experiences. We use events like these to encourage active listening with respect to individual characteristics and experiences that reflect a different way of thinking.”
The event also included presentations about the heritage and history of various Kunsan units.
The day wrapped up with a cultural food tasting event at Hangar 3 with live music from the band “Street Beat”. The cultural food tasting event allowed Kunsan members to experience a variety of dishes from different areas of the world, and learn about the groups they originated from.
“Our volunteers have cooked all the food and created a cultural board to explain and educate our members on the significance and background of each dish and group it represents,” Prescott said.
Prescott also emphasized the unique way the event promotes diversity and inclusion.
“It offers a lot of great ways to learn from exhibits to food,” she explained. “It’s a day about being open with each other and experiencing new things. We have a lot to share and a lot of talent on this base, and this event is about learning about the Wolfpack.”
