SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, HAWAII - Standing over six feet tall with an equally sized smile, Staff Sgt. Jacob Preisler made his presence known as one of the top noncommissioned officers throughout the 25th Infantry Division and United States Army Pacific.

Preisler, a cavalry scout assigned to 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division was selected to represent the division as the NCO competitor during the USARPAC best warrior competition after winning the division level competition.

“The 25th Infantry Division has a huge legacy of greatness,” said Preisler. “Just having the opportunity to be the representative for the division in the pacific competition was just huge and it was an honor to represent the division.”

This opportunity was not something that came by chance but rather through months of hard work, preparation, and consistently besting his peers at lower-level competitions.

“Sergeant Preisler is obviously a motivated leader that is both physically fit and mentally strong,” explained Command Sgt. Maj. Mark Ring, 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division command sergeant major. “He just needed someone to ask him to compete.”

Competing in competitions like this is not easy, this includes for the family that has to endure additional late nights at work and constant preparation even at home. Preisler’s family was with him every step of the way.

“My family motivated me every day,” explained Preisler. “When I’d come home I would let them know how I was doing in the competitions and they would give me the motivation I needed to not quit and go on to the next day.”

Unfortunately, Preisler placed second in the USARPAC level competition but this does not stop him from staying positive about the whole experience.

“The biggest thing I learned is to keep pushing myself,” said Preisler as he reflected on the late nights he had studying and preparing. “From the beginning until now I’ve noticed where I’m at…I’m proud of my own individual accomplishments and thank everyone else who has helped me out through this journey.”

His successes in these competitions are evident when his leadership talks about him.

“The entire team is very proud of sergeant Preisler's accomplishments and watching him over the past two years shows us all what hard work and dedication will get you,” said Ring. “He has a very bright future ahead of him. His leaders know they can count on him, his peers look to him for the standard, and his Soldiers know they can trust him. I can't wait to see how far he goes in life.”
