    10th Special Forces Group (Airborne)

FORT CARSON, Colo. – 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) reigned supreme in Army-wide competitions, winning three separate Department of the Army-level awards for 2021.
The three awards include the Philip A. Connelly Award for military foodservice excellence, the Army Supply Excellence Award (SEA) and the Army Award for Maintenance Excellence (AAME).
The Connelly Award evaluates all aspects of a Dining Facility and its team on a microscopic level, which includes assessing food quality, creativity, and proficiency. While all DFACs across the Army are eligible to compete for the award, the culinary specialists of 10th SFG(A) of LaRochelle Dining Facility took the win.
“Competition brings the best out of everyone and competing against the best the Army has to offer keeps us accountable in providing the highest quality food service to the Group,” said the Senior Culinary Management non-commissioned officer. “Winning the award validates all the hard work and determination of our culinary NCOs and culinary specialists within the organization.”
The Senior Culinary Management NCO said LaRochelle DFAC competes annually, and winning runner-up in years prior fueled the DFAC’s desire to finally win the 53rd Philip A. Connelly Award for foodservice excellence.
Food service is not the only area that 10th Group Enablers have excelled. The Group Support Battalion Supply Support Activity (SSA) brought home the Supply Excellence Award.
The SEA originated in November 1984 to recognize excellence in supply operations at both unit and organizational levels. This award measures logistical readiness and supply effectiveness and has four different levels of competition that encompass all echelons of command.
“The SSA team was ecstatic to be validated that their daily processes, procedures and overall effort were in line with the Department of the Army regulatory guidance and exceeded the standard,” said the Supply and Distribution Company commander. “So much was gained from this competition and every SSA should compete, whether win or lose.”
Finishing the trifecta of awards earned this year in Group is the Army Award for Maintenance Excellence. Like the other two awards, the AAME is a tiered competition and those participating must win at lower levels before being considered to compete at the Department of the Army level.
“The competition was all-encompassing of everything the company does,” said the Maintenance Company commander. “It focused on our daily maintenance operations but we also had to discuss training, awards, safety, schooling, etc.”
The AAME looks at maintenance readiness, effective Soldiers and leadership and efficiency of operations.
“Our entire company put a lot of hard work and long hours into this endeavor, so it is very rewarding to hear of the results,” said the commander. “Winning was a great feeling after seeing so many people work so hard for the past nine months.”
The triple-win of awards shows only a fraction of what 10th Group Enablers are capable of. All three supporting elements from Group’s Support Battalion contribute to 10th Group’s overall mission success and readiness.
