    FORT STEWART, GEORGIA, UNITED STATES

    Story by Sgt. Laurissa Hodges

    3rd Division Sustainment Brigade

Staff Sgt. Ingrid Brown, the 3rd Division Sustainment Brigade Sexual Assault Response Coordinator and small arms/artillery repairer assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, was inducted into the Ordnance Order of Samuel Sharpe on Fort Stewart, Georgia, June 17.

According to the Ordnance Corps Association website, the Order of Samuel Sharpe was created in honor of Samuel Sharpe, a member of the Council of 13 freemen of the original 13 American Colonies. On April 17th, 1629, Sharpe was appointed the master gunner of ordnance by the Massachusetts Bay colonies for his knowledge, expertise and professionalism.

The purpose of the Ordnance Order of Samuel Sharpe is to recognize those individuals who have displayed the same qualities as Sharpe, serving the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps with demonstrated integrity, moral character and professional competence.

“It takes a lot of achievement to be recognized for the regimental award because you’re actually recognized not just among your unit peers, but throughout the Army as a whole by fellow ordnance personnel,” said Maj. Eric Shumpert 188th Infantry Brigade simulation officer assigned to 188th Infantry Brigade, First Army Division East. “It takes a certain amount of pride and hitting certain milestones to achieve this award.

Brown was submitted for being ambitious and accomplishing milestones in her military career.

“I knew her in Korea she was the arm’s room and training room noncommissioned officer,” said Shumpert. “She’s an extreme “go-getter”, a team player and consistently pushes herself to achieve bigger and better things. She received a perfect on her organization inspection program and was also the Southeast Asian USO volunteer of the year.”
From the time Shumpert knew Brown she always set out to accomplish goals while also mentoring peers and subordinates alike.

“While working with her she actually listens to mentorship advice on how to further her career not just with the Army but in life such as completing her Society and Logistics Expert certification upon finishing ALC,” said Shumpert. “She stands out because while in ALC she spoke with her peers about the opportunity and then they went and completed their certification. By doing this she has become a better individual by making others around her better.”

Brown worked towards receiving the award by accepting opportunities within her scope of her military occupation specialty as well as broadening assignments outside her career path.

“As PV2 Brown from Staff Sergeant Brown I’ve done six years,” said Brown. “The award is a regimental award for ordnance but I look at being more than a 91 Foxtrot and fixing weapons.”

Brown waited on receiving the award since she was a promotable sergeant, but could not receive only because she had only served the military five years.

“I’ve been waiting for this award for a while,” said Brown. “When I work hard I like that recognition. I like to see my name on a certificate and display it to inspire others. I worked hard for this so to me it’s an accomplishment.”

Brown advises and mentors those around her to volunteer for things to set themselves apart.

“Don’t put your eggs in one basket,” said Brown.

In the future, Brown plans to make the military a career.

“My long-term goal is to become Command Sergeant Major Brown or Chief Warrant Officer Brown,” said Brown. “I gave myself 20 years and I have 14 more to go.”
