Poznan, Poland: COL Jorge Fonseca, Area Support Group – Poland (ASG-P) Commander, and select staff attended the June 1956 Poznan Uprising 65th anniversary commemoration ceremony held at Adam Mickiewicz Square. The event marked a seminal point in Poland’s history that recognized the patriotic protestors who selflessly opposed the communist government while defending the freedom and civil rights of others.

The 1956 Poznan Uprising is a testament to the unyielding courage and resolve of citizens who took a stand in the name of democracy and made the ultimate sacrifice by taking to the streets to fight for their freedom. ASG-P, along with various civilian organizations, military organizations, city officials, state and government organizations, and members of the Poznan community came out to show their support.

Participants attended mass, then proceeded to fill Adam Mickiewicz Square for a dedication ceremony. The event culminated with a moving reef laying ceremony; an emotional and heartwarming show of support and appreciation on a special day of remembrance in Polish history.
