HANCOCK FIELD AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, NY –
Chief Master Sgt. Maurice L. Williams, Air National Guard command chief, stopped in central New York to talk to New York Air National Guardsmen June 24-25, 2021.

Williams met with 174th Attack Wing leadership, the Chief's council and first sergeants. A town hall was held with Airmen during his visit to Hancock Field Air National Guard Base, Syracuse, New York.

Williams represents the highest level of enlisted leadership in the Air National Guard. He has held this position since October 2020.

He is directly responsible for all matters influencing the health, morale, welfare, job satisfaction, discipline, utilization, family support, quality of life, and professional development of more than 108,000 Air Guard members.

This is William’s first visit to an attack wing. “My goal is to talk to everyone I come in contact with,” Williams said “Mainly, the junior enlisted Airman, so I can get to know how they feel and learn how I can communicate best with them.”

“I like his priorities and the directions of his goals,” said Chief Master Sgt. Wayne Lawton, civil engineer squadron chief enlisted manager. “You can tell he wants to help our airman.”

During the town hall held at the 174th Attack Wing hangar, Williams coined Senior Master Sgt. Anthony Scuderi, Installation Emergency Manager, and Senior Airman Dustin Bestul, Intelligence Analyst, 138th Attack Squadron. They were recognized for their hard work and dedication to the wing. Scuderi was part of the COVID-19 mission and also went to WashingtonD.C. to provide support during the inauguration.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized,” said Scuderi. “However, it wasn’t just me, it was a whole team effort.”

Bestul was recognized for preparing thorough briefings for the wing commander and distinguished visitors.

Chief Master Sgt. Michael Will, 174th Attack Wing command chief, emphasized how impressive Bestul’s briefings are to the wing commander.
“I pretty much try to do the best I can at what I do,” said Bestul. “It’s an honor that the Air Force has recognized it.”

Williams then sat down with Airmen from the wing for lunch. The luncheon provided Airmen to have an open dialogue to share questions and concerns.
“Chief wants to talk to his Airmen so he can understand what needs to be changed,” said Airman 1st Class, Amanda Kriesel, a personnelist assigned to the 174th Attack Wing. “His visit allowed us to understand his experiences to help us get an idea where our career paths could lead.”

After his 174th Attack Wing visit was over, he traveled to Rome, New York to learn about the mission of the Eastern Air Defense Sector (EADS).
