Toshiaki Kobayashi, the Consul-General of Japan in Guam, meets with representatives and officers of America’s First Corps and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF), as part of exercise Forager 21 at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, July 30, 2021.
“It is a pleasure being here today,” said Kobayashi. “As a civilian, it is nice to see firsthand the partnership between the United States and Japan.”
Col. Adam Sanderson, the director of plans for First Corps, briefed Kobayashi and JGSDF officers about Forager 21 and the history of First Corps.
“We are leading the Army in experimentation,” said Sanderson. “This exercise allowed us to deliver combat power and supplies to an island utilizing Army watercraft; something we haven’t done in a while. It also taught us how invaluable training can be, west of the international date line.”
Maj. Gen. Xavier Brunson, commanding general for I Corps, and Brig. Gen. Cayle Oberwarth, the deputy commanding general of operations for I Corps, also met with Kobayashi and JGSDF officers to discuss their countries' continued partnership in the Pacific.
