NIAGARA FALLS AIR RESERVE STATION, N.Y. – The town of Wheatfield, New York, celebrated veterans at a Veterans Memorial Dedication ceremony, August 7, 2021.
“This dedication, to me, is more than just a dedication,” said Lt. Col Albert Knapp, Commander, 914th Air Refueling Wing Maintenance Group. “This is a team effort – it’s about the work and sacrifice that’s put forward, for all of us.”
This memorial dedication also fell on Purple Heart Day. The holiday was first observed in 2014, and is considered an unofficial observance.
“Millions have proudly served in the U.S. military and have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms,” said Sheriff Michael Filicetti. “This memorial will stand as a testament to those who served and will never be forgotten.”
