ANDERSEN AFB, GUAM- Representatives from I CORPS G6 and 11th Corps Signal Brigade had the rare opportunity to meet with the Chief Information Officer of the U.S. Army while in Guam at Forager 21. Dr. Raj Iyer, who took over the newly created position in July, 2020, serves as a principal advisor to the Secretary of the Army and directs representation of the secretary in matters relating to information management/information technology.

During the meeting with Dr. Iyer, I CORPS G6 and 11th Corps Signal Brigade Warrant Officers discussed the Global Agile Integrated Transport or GAIT system, and its importance in allowing tactical units to quickly connect to a network infrastructure in theater.

Additionally, they went on to discuss a hybrid, tactical, cloud-based infrastructure with an edge node, and its significance in the Indo-pacific region. They concluded their meeting with a discussion of network security and authorizing official reciprocity network structure of risk acceptance.

“Dr. Iyer’s visit with I CORPS created an open forum for direct feedback on opportunities and challenges with communications network in the Pacific theater” said Col. Liz Casely, G6 for I CORPS.

The Chief Information Officer is actively looking to modernize the U.S. Army to achieve a digital overmatch against near-peer adversaries. The ability to talk directly to the person who has control and influence over the resources and policies enables I CORPS to deliver a complete and modern network in the Pacific that allows them to remain competitive.
