MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. -- Overlooking the Potomac River stands the newest addition to Marine Corps Base Quantico. Day in and day out the bustling sounds of footsteps of Marines and civilians alike fill its halls, and while Marines attend their civil affairs classes, generals meet in the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) war room to discuss operations. It was not long ago the consolidated facilities were scattered across the base.

The history of Mundy Hall began years ago when Barrett Hall was home to MAGTF Staff Training Program (MSTP) and needed repairs. The plan to renovate Barrett Hall began in 2003 but was canceled in 2010 due to funding.

Despite the challenges, in 2011 a new project took shape. The anticipated $24.3M facility would house 67,000 square feet of classrooms, offices, and other various workspaces to include the long awaited Battle Staff Training Facility. The initial planning began in 2016, and MCB Quantico broke ground in March 2017. The new building would consolidate multiple facilities under one roof, greatly assisting in the direction of funding and resources to other facilities across the base. The project was completed in November 2019.

On Sept. 18, 2020, Quantico’s newest building was dedicated as Mundy Hall in honor of the 30th Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Carl E. Mundy Jr. Gen. Mundy was an advocate for the MSTP and understood it’s importance in training senior leaders and their staff in critical warfighting skills.

“I know some of you are already familiar…and recognize the potential that it will offer to the warfighting preparedness of our Marine Expeditionary Forces. To underscore the importance of this initiative to our Corps, I will personally sponsor the MSTP,” said Gen. Mundy.

Home to Training and Education Command headquarters, the MSTP, Marine Corps Civil Military Operations School, Command and Control Training and Education Center of Excellence, Analysis and Assessment Branch of Training and Education Command Policy and Standards Division, as well as the Deputy Commandant for Plan, Policies, and Operations, Mundy Hall stands to serve an important role to several departments that contribute to the warfighting preparedness of the Marine Corps.
