CAMP HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea – For U.S. Senior Airman Anne McCready, Media Bureau Korea videographer, painting serves as a reset to clear her mind.
McCready enjoys painting an array of themes including portraits, sceneries, and abstract works.
Painting gives McCready an outlet to be creative and feel more herself.
“I paint because it brings out a side of myself that feels more me,” McCready said with a smile on her face. “It allows me to be creative, and it helps calm my worries.”
Having a creative outlet is important for McCready because in addition to expressing herself, art also challenges her.
“There are definitely times where I’ve been discouraged because I’m not progressing at the rate I’d like to, but at the end of the day, making art is better than no practice at all,” McCready said. “I think it has helped me become more persevering, even after multiple failures.”
Nature is a big inspiration for McCready’s art now, but she originally started by looking up to her family.
“I’ve always worked on art for as long as I can remember because my mother and my Nana are artists, and I always strove to be like them,” McCready said.
McCready displays her art around her living space to make the barracks feel more like home.
“When I walk into Anne’s room I am hit with a sense of hospitality,” said U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Christopher Stolze, a friend of McCready. “She makes it a cozy, warm environment from her artwork on the walls, to her painting studio, to just sitting and having dinner with her.”
McCready says being an artist is a part of her identity and brings her a sense of joy and accomplishment.
