CAMP HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea – U.S. Army Garrison Humphrey’s main exchange held an award ceremony to present Josiah Ko, the third place winner of the “You Made the Grade '' program, with a $500 certificate on Aug. 3, 2021.
Army and Air Force Exchange Service set up a program to encourage students to work harder in school by creating a program called “You Made the Grade,” which is designed to reward students for above-average academic achievement.
Each quarter, students who receive at least a B-average qualify for a $5 Exchange gift card. They then receive an entry form to fill out to enter a drawing. Each semester, three students have the chance to win $2,000, $1,500, or $500.
“One of our core values is Family Serving Family,” said Debra Melton, Humphreys Main Exchange store manager. “Recognizing the student’s academic accomplishments offers the Exchange an opportunity to contribute to the military community's quality of life.”
“I worked hard on my homework and school work throughout the year to be able to win,” Ko said.
The program is offered all over the world, and it’s offered to students who are physically in school, homeschooled, and online.
“It’s important for students to know at a young age that if they apply themselves and be the best student they can be, they not only make themselves and their families proud, they also make their community proud,” Melton said.
