Threat from the left! He’s coming back up!
Officers with Carteret County Special Response Team (SRT) conducted annual in-service training at the indoor live-fire shoot house at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point’s Marine Corps Outlying Field (MCOLF) Atlantic, North Carolina, Oct. 5-7, 2021. The training enhances proficiency in close quarters combat, breaching techniques, apprehending suspects, and room clearing.
Carteret County SRT utilized service weapons and ballistic shields for their training. Training inside the shoot house allows them to sharpen their skills when infiltrating structures and strengthen their abilities to subdue subjects in the quickest and most efficient manners.
Carteret County SRT is an extension of the patrol unit. Their job is to respond to high-risk incidents where a patrol officer might not have jurisdiction using the most efficient and peaceful methods.
“This team is a necessity,” said Kurt Nakamura, one of the team leaders for SRT. “The personnel on this team are volunteers. They make sure the citizens of Carteret County are safe. It’s a thankless job.”
The MCOLF Atlantic shoot house features floor to ceiling dura-block and steel protection, making it bullet resistant and efficient in handling numerous live-fire training exercises.
“We use MCOLF Atlantic because it is the only local area that offers a shoot house,” said Nakamura. “Cherry Point works with us. We provide our certifications and they make the facilities available.”
MCAS Cherry Point and its satellite facilities, such as MCOLF Atlantic and Marine Corps Auxiliary Landing Field Bogue, are utilized by military branches across the Department of Defense, allied and partnered nations and local civil organizations. MCAS Cherry Point boasts a wide spectrum of training areas, to include in the air, on ground and at sea, allowing training to be conducted in multiple domains.
