    Story by Sgt. Christopher Thompson

    Noncommissioned Officer Academy Hawaii

This Project as the Army Senior Leaders wanted to foster a true environment of Self-Awareness and Assessment amongst their Junior Leaders. The Army is a profession where career development and critical job performance feedback are paramount to the success of a Team/Squad of Soldiers. Leaders should understand what their strengths and weaknesses are and what they can do to improve.

Project Athena’s website provides the Soldier with a helpful Self-Assessment they will use to determine what those exact strengths and weaknesses. Once the assessment is complete, the Soldier can use the site to access the many resources available to them to improve those weaknesses. This includes readings, seminars, classes, and evaluations from peers, seniors and subordinates.

A few of the Students were asked questions about the implementation of the new Assessment. When asked what they learned regarding the new Project, Spec. Miguel Mendez stated "I learned that the results have merit and can be used to improve your standing as a Leader in the Army"

Spc. Eric Loya was asked how he felt about his initial results, saying "It was a new experience, forcing me to really get honest with who I am and how I approach certain situations. It was surprising to see how much was there to assist me in becoming a better Leader once I completed the Assessment. It is very helpful"

Sgt. Karian Winston stated that from this tool, she hopes "100 percent!!! I think it's a great tool and everyone needs to take this, Leaders and Soldiers. It allows you to know who you are and how you may work well with others, especially if you make you feel comfortable sharing your findings with other Soldiers in your team."

When successfully applied, the Soldier in assessment will know where they stand and work diligently to improve their standing to become the exceptional Leader that all Soldiers deserve.
