Newly promoted staff noncommissioned officers (SNCO) are even more equipped to take on the charge of shaping Marines.
Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, held its annual SNCO Symposium, Oct. 6-8, 2021 in the station’s Two Rivers Theater, where newly promoted SNCOs participated in group discussions, listened to advice, leadership lessons and past experiences from guest speakers to better prepare them for their new positions and responsibilities.
On the second day of the symposium, Sgt. Maj. Jacob Reiff, the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing sergeant major, and Sgt. Maj. Jeremy Johnson, the Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2 sergeant major, spoke to the attending Marines. Reiff discussed the roles and responsibilities that come with being a SNCO, what it means to be a SNCO and what he expects from SNCOs not only in his charge, but across the U.S. Marine Corps. Following similar themes, Johnson held a guided discussion with the Marines, going over the topic of resiliency, Force Preservation Council, Command Individual Risk and Resilience Assessment, and the Family Advocate Program.
During the three-day period, the Marines were presented with an abundance of information to expand their knowledge of important tools and resources that will aid in supporting, developing and leading their Marines.
