YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan (AFNS) – Yokota Air Base, Japan, hosted a luncheon to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Oct. 15.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the U.S.

“We do this to educate and be inclusive with other cultures,” said Tech. Sgt. Erwin Ortiz Velez, 374th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron expediter and event organizer. “The more we do this, the better we understand each other and can coexist together.”

During the luncheon, attendees had the opportunity to listen to various guest speakers, watch dance performances, and learn more about Hispanic culture.

As National Hispanic Heritage month comes to a close, it’s important to recognize the accomplishments of the Hispanic community and share that with others.

“We have such a variety of people from different parts of the world and if we are all working as one community, it’s important to understand each other’s backgrounds and history,” said Tech. Sgt. John Triana, 374th Security Forces Squadron NCO in charge of standardized evaluations.
