FORT CARSON, Colo. — The Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation kicked off its flag football season Aug. 16, 2021, at Riverfront football fields.

There are 22 teams vying for the right to be called the top-pick team on post. This season comes after the post didn’t have a flag football season last year due to the pandemic. The players and coaches said they were excited to once again be on the football field and play the game they love so much.

Dajour Jamison, coach of the Blue Devils, arrived at the Mountain Post last year when the football season would have normally started. He said it meant a lot to his company to be able to come out and play football because the team has the potential to be great.

“I didn’t get the chance to play here last year, and this is the thing that I love to do, play football,” Jamison said. “It’s my hobby, and to have as good a team as (we do). If we lose this year, put it all on me because I am the quarterback, and we have some great talent.”

James Edlin, coach of the Savages, said being able to play football this year extends beyond the field. He said he has already seen it help build cohesion within the company for its Army mission, in addition to letting the players come out and enjoy playing the game.

“You can see the teamwork we are developing that we weren’t able to do last year,” Edlin said. “We know that as long as we stick together and not fall apart, we are going to be tough to beat, and that’s our goal on the field and off.”

Steven Joyner, coach of the Big Steppas, and his team looked forward to showcasing its talent.

“We know that we have to come and take big steps on every down that is played,” Joyner said. “Our goal is to score a touchdown on every play, and I am confident this team is capable of doing just that. Our guys are just glad to be able to be back out in a sports environment and show what we can do.”

Flag football action will take place each Monday and Wednesday night beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Riverfront football fields.
