YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan – Families on Yokota Air Base visited the Enlisted Club for their first ever Back-2-School Community Fair, Aug. 12, 2021. Parents were given a chance to learn about several educational opportunities that are available for children of all ages.
Over thirty agencies and private organizations affiliated with the Department of Defense Education Activity set up their tables to showcase what they have to offer. The Parent Teacher Organizations for the elementary, middle, and high schools were all present to help parents get an idea of what their kids will experience throughout the school year.
“If you’re coming to Yokota from a stateside base, it’s kind of intimidating,” said Maria Chapa, the Flight Chief for Yokota’s Airman and Family Readiness Center. “This is a great and fun opportunity for the kids to get an idea of what DoDEA is in the Yokota Community.”
Parents and children also learned more about opportunities with several other agencies, such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Child and Youth Programs.
“My team did a great job, I’m so proud of them,” said Chapa, speaking to how hard members of the AFRC worked to put this event together. “We’re excited just from the support from the Yokota Community.”
